Back to the Basics...

December 4, 2011

On my 25th Birthday I decided to start a blog to share my journey as I navigated through life then- really it was just me having a quarter life crisis because I was incredibly disappointed that real life was not as I had seen in every Kate Hudson, Anne Hathaway, Jennifer Aniston or Rachel McAdams movie. To this day, my number one question is "How did their characters afford to live in a fabulous city apartment and purchase a plane ticket to travel overseas so easily?" So in the midst of my misery (I was also very dramatic at the moment- quarter-life crisis, remember?) I began to write about anything and everything. Sometimes my posts made sense but most of the time they didn't... but I never stopped writing. My life was messy and my thoughts were completely scattered and I wanted my blog to showcase that. Even then I believed that being transparent would allow me to connect better with anyone else that was struggling to find their way.
Long story short- that little blog opened the doors to where I am today. So was it worth it to put my awkward and dramatic self out there for anyone to see? Absolutely! It is still worth it to this day. I don't know about you but I think that hitting "Post" on the web or Social Media takes a lot of guts. "What if people hate what I have to say? What if no one responds at all?" I am right there with you on the doubt, however, a little something that I have learned along the way is that what you put out there into the world shouldn't be to serve yourself but to serve others instead. So yes, although your message is ABOUT you it is not necessarily FOR you.
Once I delved further into working on my own I put the blog aside because I did not have the time to continue to write.... big mistake on my end to be honest. Writing (and overuse of punctuation, obviously) is one of my many passions because it opens the line of connection to my greatest passion of all: People. I love people. I find human beings to be incredibly fascinating in that every single one of us has a different story to tell, a unique journey to partake in and an individual heart that is one and only. Meeting and getting to know as many people as I can fills my heart.
For this reason I am going to return to the basics and pick back up where I left off. I will make the effort to write again- bare with me as it may get as messy as a Grey's Anatomy episode until I find my groove again & create a layout that I am happy with- but it will be right on the corner of real and vulnerable... and that intersection right there can lead to some pretty amazing destinations.
So I do hope that you join me as I commit to posting at least twice a week to begin. Let's talk life... family, work, love, goals, whatever comes to mind. I am a firm believer in having some sort of direction when starting anything in life so my direction for the new blog will be this:

Inspire so hard that others have no choice but to join in.
